BIOGRAPHY
“It’s rap, but it would be singing if I knew how to sing.”
HYL defines himself somewhere between song and a new wave of rap, with colorful pop and electro influences. His words create melodies reminiscent of Orelsan, Gaël Faye, L’Or du Commun, or Grand Corps Malade, balancing between carefree moments and moments of awareness. HYL embodies the tears of a smile, hope in disenchantment, and the contradiction of bipolar emotions. He loves to write about adolescence, like a child trapped in a body that’s too big for him. His playground has always been the stage, even 15 years ago. With influences from hard rock, funk, and jazz/groove, he has been part of several bands before rebranding himself with just three letters, surrounded by an illustrator (NopantsMan), a composer (Hoodie Boy), and a musician (Florent). His eclectic journey leaves a mark on his music, as he aims to conceptualize it like a drawing..
