BIOGRAPHY
MERLOT’s career began in the 1990s with the band BAOBAB, where he was both a singer and a songwriter, creating tracks that would soon propel French reggae into the 2000s, notably with the hit “Naturelle.” After years of performing and recording, MERLOT decided in 2006 to embark on a solo career. This new endeavor provided fresh momentum, resulting in two French chanson albums drawing inspiration from rap, soul, folk, and pop.
Curious and passionate, MERLOT eagerly explores new formats and experiments with his art, fostering numerous fruitful collaborations: albums and shows for young audiences, writer and actor for the Jamel Comedy Club, composer for cinema, and more. MERLOT’s solo career has continuously evolved and grown richer over the years. Today, he is also known for his documentary cine-concerts with social and poetic themes (Nouveaux Voisins, La Ville et Les Gens, Mozaigues).
