BIOGRAPHY
Though MAX ROMEO, born Maxie Smith, grew up in the beautiful Jamaican countryside in Saint Ann parish, he moved to Kingston at a young age, landing in the Trenchtown ghetto in the mid-60s. There, he mingled with iconic figures like Bob Marley, Toots Hibbert, and Peter Tosh. It was in this atmosphere—marked by poverty yet filled with joyful resilience—that MAX took his first steps in music, writing early songs steeped in the harsh but hopeful vibe of his surroundings, such as “Rudeboy Confession” and “Buy Me A Rainbow.” However, it was in 1969 with the release of “Wet Dream” that he achieved his first international success, hitting the UK Top 10. Despite the song being banned from the airwaves due to its “explicit” lyrics and causing a stir among the prudish British, MAX’s career was off and running!
